It is derived from Shakespeare’s Richard II. The scene involves a defeated ruler grieving the loss of his kingdom. Crucifix imagery signifies a sacrifice. The woman’s agency has been sacrificed; her limbs immobilized, her voice stifled with a symbol of shame. Yet she remains powerful and defiant.
Sculpting the human form is an active and fierce rebellion for Jocelyn. Her work is a reaction to the shame society teaches us to have surrounding sexuality and gender identity.
Come see her work and many other thought provoking pieces in person before the exhibition closes on August 18, 2018! http://contemporarycraft.org/exhibiti...
