Nicole Benner is a textile artist whose work examines the numerous layers of the body affected by chronic pain, which includes the physical, psychological, and emotional impact that chronic pain has on individuals.
Comfort/Confine II, which is on view in Contemporary Craft's "Fiberart International 2019" exhibition, is a full body casing that considers the broad, restrictive isolation placed on the body when an individual deals with chronic pain. The copper yarn used is a reference to the nervous system: an aspect of Nicole's own chronic pain that can be debilitating.
